Our Approach
We take a constructive interest in social matters, which may not be directly related to the business. Our guiding philosophy is that wherever we work we are part of the local community. We will constantly look for appropriate ways to contribute to the general well-being of our host community. Today, Excel is a centralized organization working in small group and touching the lives of its neighbours.

People
Our Company places considerable value on the involvement of its employees and has a practice of keeping them informed on matters affecting them as employees.
We encourage teamwork because we believe that a part is one of the whole.
We incorporate in-house training facilities complemented when and where necessary, with additional facilities from educational institutions for the training of our employees because we believe that excellence depends on continuous quality improvement in people.

HSE
EXCEL has developed a comprehensive system for the management of Health, Safety, Environment and Social issues at all her areas of operation in keeping with her corporate values and vision. These comprise a set of company-wide policies, management systems, controls and policies, all of which have derived from good oil (and gas) field practice and the Nigerian legislation. To achieve sustainable development, a structured approach is used based on an HSE management system (HSE-MS).
- HSE Policy
Our HSE Policy is centered on carrying out our activities in such a way as to:
• Avoid injury to and preserve the health and safety of its own employees, those of its contractors and any member of the public that may be affected.
• Minimize the impacts of our operation/activities on the environment in which she operates.
• Ensure that every company and contractor employee must plan and perform his or her day’s job in accordance with the Excel HSE policy.
• Ensure an activity is suspended when the employee believes that it cannot be carried out in accordance the Excel HSE policy and that he or she reports this immediately the supervisor.
- HSE Implementation
Health and safety regulations are in force within the company’s premises and operational areas and employees are aware of existing regulations. In the event of accidents or ailments occurring at the work place, there are adequate provisions for medical care at the company’s expense up to stated limits. The HSE Management system in place include:
• Excel Waste Management Plan
• Excel Oil Spill Contingency Management Plan.
• Excel Community Engagement Plan
• EIA Report
• Safe work procedure system/Permit to work system
• Incident reporting and investigation procedure

- Community Relations
In line with our core values, we take keen interest in social matters and seek to deliver sustainable social solutions beneficial to the community. At Excel, we see ourselves as part of the local community and this has helped us bring a balance to our relationship with our host community and wherever we work. Our guiding principle is to continue to improve on identified ways to appreciate and contribute to the general well-being of the people living in the community. We will continue to touch the lives of the people positively.

- Community Development
Excel Exploration and Production takes keen interest in the development of its community and seeks to deliver sustainable social solutions that are of benefit. At Excel, we have the understanding that our success is drawn from the progress of the community. Over the years, we have contributed measurably in social investments to our host community promoting economic growth with spotlights on partnerships in Health Initiatives, Human Capacity Development, Educational Initiatives and other Economic development programmes.
- Socio-Economic Development
We improve local economies through job creations and building capacity of the local workforce through our supply chain activities. Some of our intervention programmes include supporting Health related interventions, gainful employment in the business, Contract award to competent indigenes, Computer Literacy programmes and other educational interventions germane to the community.
- Small/Medium Scale Enterprise
We value the fact that Small and Medium scale Enterprises can drive economic growth and job creation in a community. Therefore, we leverage on this fact and contribute to the general prosperity of the community by supporting Cottage Industry Development Projects, giving confidence to local entrepreneurs through economic empowerment (small scale local purchases) of youths and women thereby encouraging gender equality/balance.
- Health
EXCEL promotes a healthy community by improving access to health care in order to stamp out diseases. The need for a healthy environment to affirm prosperity cannot be overemphasized. The engagement of peer educators on healthy living in the community(at home and place of work), awareness programmes on HIV/AIDS, family planning, Malaria preventive measures, reduction of child morbidity/mortality rate & Maternal mortality rate and free advice to Local midwives.
- Education
Through our Educational interventions in supply of school materials & Science related instructional Aids, Literacy development projects (book reading), local school library stocking, sponsorships/scholarships and Youth Literacy development projects (provision of word games), we have significantly provided basic support to the community in the area of education in line with our educational policies.
- Ad-Hoc Request
We support valid requests from the youths and women in the community in water sports competitions, donation of Football Jerseys to the Youth Football team, setting up of a free World Cup Viewing Centre in the community, donations towards community cultural displays and support during the Christmas festive seasons. Our goal in the community is to continue to support initiatives/solutions that create mutual benefits to increase shared values. All our initiatives will work through the value chain in rural development through the unending provision of trainings, finely tuned knowledge promotion, peace and stability in the community.
